Flavourful Pork Mince Bobotie

This Pork Mince Bobotie recipe is a comforting and flavorful dish, perfect for a cozy meal at home. With fragrant spices and pumpkin, this dish will satisfy all your taste buds.


  • 500g pork mince
  • 2 cups cooked solid pumpkin of your choice (such as butternut)
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1-2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground curry powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp onion seeds
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/3 cup chutney
  • 2-3 medium eggs, lightly whisked with some full-cream milk
  • Laurel leaves to top


Preheat your oven to 180°C/350°F. Grease a baking dish and set aside. Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and fry until translucent. Add the minced garlic and spices and stir until fragrant. Add the pork mince and fry until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Add the cooked pumpkin and chutney to the pan and stir to combine everything well. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Whisk together the eggs and milk. Pour the egg mixture over the pork mixture and top with some laurel leaves. Bake the bobotie for 30-40 minutes or until the top is set and the filling is cooked through. Serve hot with some rice, and enjoy!
